Larry Keel released American Dream, a solo album created predominantly this past spring while the acclaimed singer-songwriter was self-quarantining. Keel penned each of the LP’s 10 tracks, which he also produced and recorded himself.
Each instrument on each track was played by Keel in a fashion similar to Jerry Garcia’s Garcia and Paul McCartney’s McCartney. Larry shows off his skills on mandolin, banjo, bass and guitar on American Dream, which includes some songs based on Keel’s traditional bluegrass style and others where he explores other soundscapes.

American Dream features lyrics both informed by Keel’s touring experiences and his take on current events such as the COVID-19 pandemic and worldwide protests against systemic racism. “I consider this album to be a culmination of my deepest and most sincere thoughts, up to now. In spite of the turbulent times happening when I wrote most of these songs, I felt really centered and energized to just say exactly what was on my mind through lyrics and music,” Larry said in a statement. “For me, this was a positive experience in starting a conversation through this recording. Hopefully it resonates with someone out there.”
