Acclaimed guitarist and singer/songwriter Larry Keel will release a new solo album entitled American Dream on November 6 via Keel Fish Music. JamBase is pleased to premiere the LP’s lead single, “Try.”

Larry Keel produced, recorded and wrote all 10 tracks on American Dream himself. Most of the songs on the LP were penned while quarantining and during a period of nationwide protests that followed the police killing of George Floyd. American Dream gives an autobiographical overview of Keel’s life and career and features Keel playing each instrument on every track.

“I consider American Dream to be a culmination of my deepest and most sincere thoughts, up to now. In spite of the turbulent times happening when I wrote most of these songs, I felt really centered and energized to just say exactly what was on my mind through lyrics and music,” the flatpicking guitarist told JamBase. “For me, this was a positive experience in starting a conversation through this recording. I hope it brightens people’s day.”

“This is just my rockin-out way of saying what it’s like to work on ‘figuring it all out.’ You know, all life’s mysteries and challenges. Big concept, simple approach: all you gotta do is TRY,” Keel said of “Try” to JamBase. “Musically I’m going for that Bo Diddley, syncopated beat… like a grungy, pumped-up blues. I had fun stretching out my limited upright bass skills on this tune, even taking a short solo in one section and doing a picking technique on the strings while I slide my fretting fingers down the neck to make a wild, siren sound.”
