King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard played their first show of 2025 on Sunday night, launching their European Residency Tour with the first of three consecutive concerts at Coliseu do Recreios in Lisbon, Portugal. Frontman Stu Mackenzie gave himself a fresh new look for the tour, shaving his head onstage while his bandmates played the final song of the night.
Opening night’s setlist contained the usual mix of songs from KGLW’s vast catalog, though they did not play anything off their upcoming 27th album, Phantom Island. Throughout the single-set performance King Gizz cycled through an assortment of teases and quotes, extensively incorporating elements of their original songs and covers.

“Antarctica” was infused with “Daily Blues,” “Ice V” and Thee Oh Sees’ “Block Of Ice.” Later in the set, “Am I In Heaven?” worked in a “Sad Pilot” jam and teases of “Riff Raff” by fellow Aussie rockers AC/DC.
“Am I In Heaven?” segued into “Self-Immolate,” which saw Mackenzie pick up a set of hair clippers and begin to shave his head while drummer Michael Cavanagh played a solo. Guitarist Joey Walker and a photographer working the show helped Mackenzie with his new hairstyle.
Mackenzie swapped the hair clippers for his guitar and joined his bandmates in completing “Self-Immolate” to draw the concert to a close. KGLW will play two additional shows at Coliseu do Recreios tonight and tomorrow night.
