By King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard’s standards, 2023 has been a slow year for the Australian rockers when it comes to studio output. The prolific band has so far released just one album, PetroDragonic Apocalypse; or, Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation of Planet Earth and the Beginning of Merciless Damnation, but that will soon change with the release of The Silver Cord on October 27.
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard’s pair of 2023 studio albums follow the five records the band released in 2022. The band previously called PetroDragonic Apocalypse and The Silver Cord “a yin and yang thang.”
“When we made Petro,” KGLW guitarist Stu Mackenzie told Uncut, “we thought we’d do this super heavy thing and also do this beautiful electronic record and find some way to make them the same world.”
King Gizzard’s 25th album in 11 years, The Silver Cord is made up of seven songs, none of which have been performed live by the band. There will also be an extended edition featuring expanded versions of the seven tracks. Pre-orders will be available October 12.
