Sketches Of Gizz: King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard Unveil ‘Demos Vol. 5 + Vol. 6’ Collection

Two and a half months past since King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard released new music, which for the prolific Aussie rocker is like two years in normal band terms. But today King Gizzard opened their vault once again to issue Demos Vol. 5 + Vol. 6 featuring 26 early versions of songs recorded between 2010 and 2022 as well as official live audio of their June 2023 three-night-stand at Chicago’s The Salt Shed.

Demos Vol. 5 + Vol. 6 consisting of demos, bootlegs and remixes was actually announced as “coming soon” way back on July 17, 2022 but there had been radio silence ever since. King Gizzard released Demos Vol. 1 + Vol. 2 on September 29, 2020 and followed with Demos Vol. 3 + Vol. 4 on July 15, 2022.

The group’s third two-volume demos collection includes multiple versions of Omnium Gatherum lead single “The Dripping Tap.” Neither reaches the 18-minute mark found on the eventual release but show how they’d get there. Other treats are the banger “Music To Burn Money To,” a 15-second jingle for “MTV,” proto rendition of Infest The Rats’ Nest standout “Self-Immolate” and a pair of “Pleura” demos that display the evotion of the LW cut.

Live In Chicago simply presents official audio of King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard’s June 11 – 13 shows at The Salt Shed taped by the band’s sound crew. A total of 40 tracks are featured, each mixed by Stu Mackenzie an Sam Joseph.

Both releases are part of King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard’s Bootlegger program. Fans can release the albums in whatever format they’d like as long as they send the band some of them to sell on the Gizzverse.com website.
