King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard continued their three-night run at the Lycabettus Theatre in Athens on Thursday. The genre-bending Australian band unveiled an electronic rendering of the Omnium Gatherum gem, “Kepler-22b.”
KGLW launched night two in Greece with a pair of heavy hitters, “Gila Monster” and “Motor Spirit,” from their 2023 metal album, Petro Dragonic Apocalypse. An I’m In Your Mind Fuzz suite followed: “I’m In Your Mind” > “I’m Not In Your Mind” > “Cellophane” > “I’m In Your Mind Fuzz.” “Cellophane” saw multi-instrumentalist Ambrose Kenny-Smith picking up his saxophone.
“I’m Not In Your Mind” contained a call back to the band’s breakout of Murder of the Universe songs the night prior with elements of “Alter Me I” and Gizz appropriately capped the Fuzz suite with MOTU’s “The Balrog.”

Guitarist Joey Walker’s beloved Omnium Gatherum cut “Ambergris” came next. “Sad Pilot,” off the band’s most recently released album Flight b741, followed ahead of “Iron Lung.” The latter saw the band continuing to build anticipation for their next album, Phantom Island, with quotes of the title track, as they did on night one in Athens during “Boogieman Sam.” Phantom Island arrives next week.
“Evil Death Roll” sans the Invisible Face section followed ahead of a “Muddy Water”/“The Bitter Boogie” pairing. Drummer Michael Cavanagh blurred lines between beats on the respective Paper Mâché Dream Balloon and Gumboot Soup tracks. KGLW sound engineer Joe Santarpia then helped out on pig noises for “Hog Calling Contest.”
King Gizz wrapped the show with an Omnium Gatherum around the synth table, which began with the new electronic arrangement of “Kepler-22b,” The song making its fifth appearance was last played on September 2, 2023 for a 76 show gap, as per KGLW.net. With Cavs behind the kit and bassist Lucas Harwood on four-string, the band conjured sounds from their revamped and elaborate synth rig as Stu Mackenzie, backed by his co-writer on the tune Cook Craig, led the way through the electro “Kepler.” KGLW stayed in synth mode to seal the show with The Silver Cord‘s “Set.”
