Khruangbin’s limited tour marking the 10th anniversary of their debut album, The Universe Smiles Upon You — and its recently released surprise companion, The Universe Smiles Upon You ii — arrived at Webster Hall in New York City on Monday night. After performing their main set, the band initiated the encore by covering Sade’s “Cherish The Day.”
Bassist Laura Lee, guitarist Mark Speer and drummer Donald “DJ” Johnson brought along frequent collaborator, keyboardist/steel guitarist Will Van Horn, for the current run of shows. Khruangbin’s setlist was largely built around the aforementioned pair of albums.
An additional cover, the regularly played “Firecracker” by Martin Denny, was part of the performance as well. A few songs from Khruangbin’s albums Con todo el mundo and their 2024 release, A LA SALA.
The encore offering of “Cherish The Day” was an instrumental arrangement of the song that appeared on the 1992 Sade album, Love Deluxe. Watch footage of Khruangbin covering the song below:
