Kamasi Washington made his late night television debut as the musical guest on Wednesday’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Washington fronted a massive 13-piece ensemble in performing his new single “The Garden Path.”

“The Garden Path” was released earlier in the day and marked the acclaimed jazz saxophonist’s first new, original music since last June. Kamasi was joined by multiple vocalists, percussionists, drummers and keyboardists as well as a flautist, trombonist, bassist and trumpeter for the bombastic performance. However, it was Washington who stood out in delivering a powerful solo.

“The world feels turned upside down,” Washington said of his new song. “There’s so much push and pull in every direction, from everyone you meet—no one knows what to think, who to believe, or how to approach life right now. No matter how smart you are, it’s hard not to feel blind.”
