Joy Oladokun recently swung by the studios of Minnesota Public Radio’s The Current to perform a three-song session. The singer-songwriter went solo for a cut from her new album and two off her 2021 major label debut.
Oladokun’s stripped-down set featured just her dynamic voice and stellar electric guitar work. The Arizona native started the session with Proof Of Life standout “Purple Haze.” The original song finds Joy singing passionately about the importance of human connection and how “love is all we need to survive.”
The 31-year-old musician continued her set with “Look Up” and closed the session with “If You Got A Problem.” Both songs are featured on 2021’s in defense of my own happiness, Oladokun’s critically-acclaimed breakthrough album. The honesty and vulnerability in her music comes through on each track.
