John Mayer tested positive on a PCR COVID-19 test for the second time in as many months, leading to postponements of the next four concerts on his Sob Rock Tour. Mayer announced new dates for shows in Pittsburgh, Elmont Park (New York) and Boston.

The guitarist previously pulled out of Dead & Company's Playing In The Sand destination event after testing positive for COVID-19 last month. Playing In The Sand was subsequently canceled on the day the first of two weekends was set to begin.

John Mayer will now bring the Sob Rock Tour to Pittsburgh’s PPG Paints Arena on May 5, Belmont Park’s UBS Arena on May 7 and Boston’s TD Garden on May 9 and 10. “Whelp. More members of the band tested positive for Covid today, and I was one of them,” Mayer wrote on social media. “This means we have to reschedule the next four shows, which we’ve already rescheduled and posted above. I’m so sorry to make you change your plans. This is a bummer for everyone in the band and crew, to say nothing of the question hanging over everyone’s head – mine included – as to how I tested positive on PCR twice in two months. (The first was extremely mild, but this one’s got the better of me.)”

Two members of Mayer’s band — drummer Steve Ferrone and vocalist Carlos Ricketts — tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this week. Both Ferrone and Ricketts missed shows at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Monday and at the Capital One Arena in Washington D.C. on Wednesday. John Mayer changed the format of each concert to incorporate acoustic performances and guest appearances from drummers Questlove in NYC and J.J. Johnson in Washington D.C.

The Sob Rock Tour is expected to resume at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on March 11. All four postponed concerts have been tacked onto the end of the trek after a show in Toronto that was recently rescheduled to May 3.
