Guitarist John Mayer will soon embark on an extensive 2022 North American Tour in support of his Sob Rock album. Today, Mayer announced the members of his band for the Sob Rock Tour.
The 10-piece ensemble features musicians who have a long history with Mayer as well as newcomers to his group. Two longtime members are fellow guitarists Isaiah Sharkey and David Ryan Harris. He’ll also be joined by Pino Palladino, who was part of the John Mayer Trio, on bass.

Steve Ferrone will be behind the kit after a 22-year stint in Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. Keyboard duties will be handled by both Jamie Muhoberac (Jane’s Addiction, Chris Cornell) and the legendary Greg Phillinganes (Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson). The band will be rounded out by percussionist Lenny Castro (Taj Mahal, Billy Preston) and vocalists Tiffany Palmer (Janet Jackson, Chaka Khan) and Carlos Ricketts (Kool & The Gang, Patti LaBelle).
“The combined years of experience between these extraordinary musicians, as well as their contributions to the art form, is really something special to see and hear all on one stage,” Mayer wrote on Instagram. “We’ve been rehearsing for the past 10 days or so, and it’s been more of a revelation than a recital. I couldn’t be more excited to hit the road with them, and I hope you can come out and see us.”
John Mayer will debut the band with an intimate show in Los Angeles on February 9 as part of SiriusXM and Pandora’s Small Stage Series. The tour then gets underway in Albany, New York on February 17 and runs through April 29.
