John Mayer Names & Performs His Favorite Grateful Dead Songs At NAMM

Last month guitarist John Mayer made an appearance at the annual NAMM Convention in Anaheim, where he introduced a new amplifier and took a few questions. One came from Deadhead Dave Stotts who asked Mayer what his favorite Grateful Dead song to play with Dead & Company is and would he perform some of it. Mayer complied and also talked about the inspiration he gets from Jerry Garcia.
John started his response by performing some of “He’s Gone” and the “implied swing” that is an integral part of the song. He then quickly dove into the main lick of “They Love Each Other” and revealed “there’s not a second that goes by” in which he isn’t thinking about Jerry Garcia when he plays Dead songs. Finally, Mayer performed some of “Terrapin Station” and talked about how deceptively hard the tune is to play.
