Guitarist John Mayer took the opportunity of a day off on Sunday after Dead & Company completed a two-night stand at Citi Field in New York City to co-host the popular internet gameshow HQ Trivia. Mayer co-hosted the Father’s Day installment of HQ Trivia with Scott “Quiz Daddy” Rogowsky. The pair introduced most of the questions with a portion of a song from the Grateful Dead’s repertoire.
Rogowsky kept a tradition going by quoting Phish’s “AC/DC Bag” and the line “let’s get down to the nitty-gritty, let’s get the show on the road” before asking the first question. Scott and John then introduced with the second question by re-working lines from the Dead’s “Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo” to “Half step, Mississippi uptown…question two.” The duo went on to lead into the third question with a bit of “Bertha” sung as “You have to move, really have to move to question three.”

Mayer and Rogowsky had good rapport throughout Sunday’s installment. The Dead references kept coming with lyrics from “Eyes Of The World,” “Beat It On Down The Line” and “Uncle John’s Band” utilized as “Wake up and find out that you are at question four,” “We’re gonna beat it on down to Q5,” “come here uncle john’s quiz it’s time for question six.” John and Scott went on to introduce the rest of the 12 questions with portions of “Althea,” “Help On The Way,” “Jack Straw,” “New Minglewood Blues,” “The Music Never Stopped” and “Truckin’.”
