John Mayer busted out a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m On Fire” during his concert Saturday night at the Chase Center in San Francisco. The Sob Rock Tour debut of the Springsteen classic came during a solo acoustic portion of the show.
Saturday’s concert was Mayer’s second consecutive night at the Chase Center, following Friday’s show that saw the tour's debut cover of Beyoncé’s “XO.” Like the previous evening, Saturday’s opening full band set began with the Sob Rock track “Last Train Home.” The opener was the only first set repeat as Mayer worked in fellow Sob Rock songs “Shot in the Dark” and “Shouldn’t Matter But It Does” with staples like “I Don’t Trust Myself (With Loving You)” and “Your Body Is A Wonderland.”
The aforementioned solo acoustic segment began with “I’m On Fire,” which was purportedly last played by Mayer in 2019. The brief “I’m On Fire” provided a seamless intro into “3×5.” Mayer ended the solo section with “Neon.” The rest of the band returned for a final set that kicked off with the Continuum track “Belief.” The latter part of the set presented the frequent run of “The Beautiful Ones,” “Slow Dancing In A Burning Room” and “Waiting On The World To Change,” with “Edge Of Desire” trailing as the set closer.
The two-part encore began with “Gravity.” Mayer then brought the concert to an end with “New Light.” Watch John Mayer cover Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m On Fire” in San Francisco below:
