John Mayer Busts Out Beyoncé Cover In San Francisco

John Mayer kicked off a two-night run at San Francisco’s Chase Center on Friday night as part of his 2022 Sob Rock Tour. The singer-songwriter and guitarist dusted off a cover of Beyoncé‘s “XO” during the acoustic portion of the concert.

Mayer and company got the first full band segment underway with Sob Rock’s “Last Train Home.” He also included the album’s “Wild Blue” along with older favorites including “Something Like Olivia” and “Love On The Weekend.” The initial full band section came to a close with “Changing.”

John then switched to his acoustic format beginning with the aforementioned Beyoncé bust out, last time played on October 3, 2019 in Oslo, Norway, as per SetlistFM. The guitarist delivered the song with his own harmonica accompaniment. Mayer debuted the song from Beyoncé’s 2013 self-titled album live at an April 2014 concert in Australia and also released a studio version of the cover shortly after. Mayer wrapped the acoustic segment with “In Your Atmosphere” and “Neon.”

The final full band section featured songs Mayer has been playing on the Sob Rock tour including “Still Feel Like Your Man” and “Edge Of Desire,” along with a “You Can Call Me Al” (Paul Simon) tease during “Till The Right One Comes” and portions of Prince’s “The Beautiful Ones.” The guitarist closed out the main set with the John Mayer Trio release “Gravity” ahead of a two-song encore including the classic “Your Body Is A Wonderland” and Sob Rock’s “New Light.”
