John Kadlecik Teams With Members Of The Disco Biscuits & Lotus For West Philly Fadeaway: Full Show Video

By Jeffrey Greenblatt Oct 13, 2018 10:31 am PDT

On Friday John Kadlecik assembled West Philly Fadeaway a jam-scene all-star band made up of bassist Marc Brownstein and keyboardist Aron Magner of The Disco Biscuits along with Lotus drummer Mike Greenfield. As suggested by their moniker the quartet explored the music of the Grateful Dead over the course of two sets at Ardmore Music Hall located in suburban Philadelphia.

The evening got underway with a Magner-sung take on “Feel Like A Stranger” that also featured guitarist Danny Mayer of the Eric Krasno Band. Mayer would remain on stage for most of the opening frame and return to lend a hand throughout portions of the second set. Kadlecik would handle vocals on the majority of the selections last night. The singer-guitarist not only fronted the ensemble on Jerry Garcia tunes, which he made a name for himself doing as a founding member of Dark Star Orchestra but also ones that Bob Weir traditionally sang with the Grateful Dead. Expansive takes on “Sugaree,” “West L.A. Fadeaway” and the unusual pairing of “Me & My Uncle” > “Touch Of Grey” highlighted the opening frame. The band offered up a 20+ minute “Scarlet Begonias” > “Fire On The Mountain” to open up the second set. While the back half of the stanza saw West Philly Fadeaway dig in on “Eyes Of The World,” “The Other One” and “He’s Gone.”
