[Updated] Joe Russo’s Almost Dead Returns To Red Rocks – Photos, Setlist & Video

Joe Russo’s Almost Dead returned to the majestic Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado for a performance Thursday night. The two-set show featured plenty of Grateful Dead classics as well as a Radiohead favorite and a tease of a Phish song.

JRAD’s first set Thursday was loaded with Dead staples, from the opening jam into “Playing In The Band” led by guitarist Scott Metzger to the closing “The Other One.” The second set picked up where set two led off as drummer Joe Russo and bassist Dave Dreiwitz pounded out a “The Other One” jam that segued into “I Need A Miracle.” A reggae vibe was injected into Thursday’s version of “Estimated Prophet,” which then transitioned into “St. Stephen.”

Next up was the usual pairing of “Help On The Way” and “Slipknot!” During the latter instrumental, guitarist Tom Hamilton initiated a tease of “Wilson” by Phish that prompted the audience to react with the song’s usual chantted response. Hamilton then led the band through a cover of Radiohead’s “The Bends.” Keyboardist Marco Benevento took a solo within the set-closing “Not Fade Away” that included elements of “I Want Candy.” Marco also kicked off the encore alone onstage before his band mates joined him for Warren Zevon’s “Werewolves Of London.” The night ended with “Franklin’s Tower” and a nod to the late great Queen Of Soul, Aretha Franklin, in the form of a tease of “Respect.”
