Jam Cruise is known for host first-of-its-kind collaborations and Talking Heads co-founder Jerry Harrison and one-time touring member guitarist Adrian Belew embraced the ethos during their Remain In Light set aboard the recently-completed Jam Cruise 20. Harrison and Belew’s ensemble was joined by percussionist Mike Dillon and his Fearless Frog Brigade bandmate keyboardist Harry Waters on “Crosseyed & Painless.”

The Remain In Light performance took place at the MSC Divina’s Pantheon Theater on February 26 — the second day of Jam Cruise 20. Harrison and Belew’s band for the ongoing tribute to the iconic 1980 Talking Heads album features Cool Cool Cool (ex-Turkuaz), percussionist Yahuba Garcia-Torres and bassist Julie Slick. In addition to choice cuts off Remain In Light, the crew also performed other Talking Heads classics, King Crimson’s “Thela Hun Gunjeet” and Harrison’s solo gem “Rev It Up.”

Dillon emerged after the “Psycho Killer” opener to team with Garcia-Torres to provide a powerful rhythmic base on “Crosseyed & Painless.” The Remain In Light band utilized the Talking Heads’ method of moving from a slow pace for the intro into a quick tempo. Harry Waters, the son of Pink Floyd co-founder Roger Waters, hopped on keys once “Crosseyed” shifted into the speed found on the studio version. Cool Cool Cool’s Josch Schwartz did a wonderful job channeling David Byrne on lead vocal duties. His bandmates Shira Elias and Sammi Garett not only crushed the harmonies but also pulled off impressive dance moves.
