Over the past few years many pieces of Jerry Garcia memorabilia have been put up for auction, but the latest lot shows off a different side of the Grateful Dead front man. As per The Daily Mail, RR Auction has put two hand-written love letters Garcia wrote to a former Vogue model up for bid.

All in all, the lot includes eight hand-written pages including Garcia’s drawings of The Greek Theatre in Berkeley which you can see above. Jerry wrote the letters to a former Vogue model he met at a party in New York City during the Dead’s famed Radio City run in 1980 according to Page Six. “Thank you for sending me that postcard! I feel like it’s sort of our first ‘official’ communication somehow. I’ve been hoping we could get together ever since we first met at Al’s that winter nite so long ago (sigh),” Jerry wrote before continuing later with, “I hope it doesn’t seem like I’ve been avoiding you, although I admit I’ve kind of been waiting for the opportunity (that is, the ‘right’ opportunity) for us to meet in some kind of neutral context that would be comfortable and relaxed and free of any pressure.” It’s a side of Captain Trips we never get to see.

RR Auction Executive Vice President Bobby Livingston told The Daily Mail the letters are expected to fetch between $10 -$15K. “The rarity of this handwritten letter cannot be overstated,” Livingston explained to The Daily Mail. “Research indicates no others ever being on the market. Even Garcia himself noted, ‘this is the first letter I’ve written in years.'” Live bidding begins on January 22 at 3 p.m. ET.
