On March 10, Round Records will release a new installment of the Jerry Garcia live archival series GarciaLive featuring the Jerry Garcia Band performing on November 23, 1991. The JGB show at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee making up GarciaLive Volume Eight included a cover of “Shining Star,” which has been shared in advance of the official release.
The new release was recorded by John Cutler and comes packaged with photos by Bob Minkin and an essay by Dean Budnick. Guitarist Jerry Garcia was backed that evening by keyboardist Melvin Seals, drummer Dave Kemper, bassist John Kahn and vocalists Jackie LaBranch and Gloria Jones. Part of a second set that saw the Jerry Garcia Band’s last version of Van Morrison’s “Bright Side Of The Road,” the JGB cover of The Manhattans’ “Shining Star” was stretched out for just over 13 minutes at the Bradley Center.
