Guitarist Jason Isbell opened a run of four solo acoustic concerts last night in Tarrytown, New York. Isbell was accompanied by his wife, fiddler Amanda Shires and 400 Unit bandmate guitarist Sadler Vaden at the Tarrytown Music Hall on Tuesday.
Isbell presented a 17-song show featuring material from throughout his career along with a few choice covers and a Shires original. The Alabama native went with “24 Frames” off 2015’s Something More Than Free to begin last night’s show. Something More Than Free was also represented in Tarrytown with its title track, “Speed Trap Town” and “The Life You Chose.”

Jason, Amanda and Sadler followed “24 Frames” with “Only Children” from the latest Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit album, 2020’s Reunions. They would later play “Overseas” and “Letting You Go” from the LP. Additionally, Isbell, Shires and Vaden looked to Southeastern (2013) for “Different Days,” “Elephant” and “Cover Me Up.”
The guitarist pulled “Goddamn Lonely Love” from his time in Drive-By Truckers and ceded the spotlight to Shires for “Parking Lot Pirouette” off Amanda’s 2018 solo effort, To The Sunset. Last night’s main set also featured a cover of Townes Van Zandt’s “Pancho And Lefty.” For the encore, the trio capped the concert with Here We Rest (2011) standout “Tour Of Duty” and the Warren Zevon gem “Mutineer.”
Jason Isbell continues the brief trek on Thursday in Huntington, New York. S.G. Goodman opens as he did last night. Check out photographer Andrew Blackstein’s images from Tuesday’s tour opener below:
