Jason Isbell and his wife, Amanda Shires have left the Country Music Association. The pair returned their membership cards due to the organizations, “failure to mention John Prine, Jerry Jeff Walker, and Billy Joe Shaver at the CMA’s” as per a tweet from Isbell.
The annual CMA Awards show, The CMAs, was broadcast Wednesday night on ABC. While producers of the special didn’t honor Prine, Walker and Shaver, they did devote tributes to Charlie Daniels, Kenny Rogers, Joe Diffie and Mac Davis. John Prine died in April due to complications from COVID-19, while in October Jerry Jeff Walker died of cancer and Billy Joe Shaver passed after suffering a stroke.
