Jason Isbell, Sadler Vaden and Jimbo Hart of Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit each spoke with Premier Guitar for a 90+ minute installment of the publication’s Rig Rundown video series. Isbell, Vaden and Hart detailed their live gear before the fourth night of the band’s recent residency at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium.

Guitarists Isbell and Vaden and bassist Hart previously discussed their setups with Premier Guitar in 2015 for a 60-minute Rig Rundown, which at the time was the longest in the history of the series. For this installment, the three musicians provide Perry Bean with an even more extensive tour of their rigs focusing on changes made over the past four years.

The video starts with Jason Isbell taking each of his guitars out of a road case and telling the stories behind each one, including the 1959 “Red Eye” Les Paul previously owned by Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Ed King. Next, Isbell discussed the amps and effects he uses on the road.

Sadler Vaden is up next and showed off the custom Strat that Fender built for him as well as other guitars he had on hand at The Ryman. Vaden then spoke about his amps and explained how he uses some of the effects in his rig. Finally, Jimbo Hart provided a look at his gear. Hart first displayed his main bass, which was given to him by former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted. Hart told Perry Bean about the controls on the instruments and then talked effects and amps.
