Jamie McLean Band Takes ‘One Step Forward’ On New Album

The Jamie McLean Band announced details of their next album, One Step Forward, which is set for release on October 25 via Harmonized Records. Out now is “Summer Of Who Knows When,” the eight-track LP’s lead single and opening track.

Guitarist/vocalist Jamie McLean is joined in the JMB lineup featured on One Step Forward by keyboardist Jon Solo (Brett Dennen/Angus and Julia), drummer Brian Griffin (The Black Crowes, Brandi Carlile) and bassist Chris Anderson (Rachel Platten, Richard Marx). Solo, an original member, returned to the group for the LP.

Jamie McLean and the JMB recorded the forthcoming album at Brooklyn’s Grand Street Recording. Ken Rich mixed and engineered the record, which was mastered by Whynot Jansveld.

The former Dirty Dozen Brass Band guitarist dealt with highly personal issues on One Step Forward. The follow-up to 2022’s Paradise Found incorporates themes of “life, loss, and love,” said McLean. “The things that inspire us and keep us going. The things we’ve lost. The people we love the most. Positivity. I’m recently engaged and want to share that happiness.”

Jamie McLean told Americana Highways, the outlet that premiered “Summer Of Who Knows When,” the following of the song:

“Summer of Who Knows When” is a throwback to childhood memories from the best days of summer. A first kiss, learning to drive, late night swims, cold beers at the beach. A time when innocence meets experience and wonder. The opening lick immediately made me think of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and the band and I lean into that groove. Classic American rock and roll. I name check Petty and “Running Down a Dream” in the bridge. It’s as if the ghost of Tom Petty lingers throughout this instant summer classic!
