The JamBase Podcast: Jennifer Hartswick
The latest installment of The JamBase Podcast features an interview with Jennifer Hartswick. The longtime Trey Anastasio Band trumpeter/vocalist discusses “The Art Of The Sit-In” with JamBase’s Scott Bernstein ahead of a September 13th concert at The Music Hall Of Williamsburg in New York City. The episode starts with “The Rundown” of recent news stories.
Jennifer spoke about a variety of guest appearances she has made as well as experiences having other musicians sit-in with her bands. Hartswick starts by recalling the preparation that went into the TAB set at Lockn’ featuring Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi. Hartswick then touched on her participation in Phish’s musical cover of David Bowie’s The Rise & Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars on Halloween 2016 and the debut Ghosts Of The Forest tour. Next came a discussion of the Jennifer-led Super Jam aboard this past January’s Jam Cruise 17. The Vermont native spoke about the recent trend of tributes taking the spotlight over original material, her guest appearances with Umphrey’s McGee, performing with Oteil & Friends and Melvin Seals as well as other topics.
Up first is “The Rundown” hosted by Scotty B and JamBase contributor Chad Berndtson. Chad recaps the many tour announcements that came in over the past few weeks and then Scotty remembers Eddie Money, Ric Ocasek and Daniel Johnston, each of whom died recently. Next, Berndtson discusses a Medeski, Martin & Wood documentary that’s premiering soon. A quick look at Greensky Bluegrass’ Red Rocks run is followed by Chad previewing a Billy Strings feature he’s working on for JamBase. “The Rundown” ends with Scotty and Chad talking about concerts they’ll be catching in the near future.
