Singer-songwriter Jackie Greene has announced the upcoming release of Back To Birth, his first new studio album in five years. The new record marks his first on the Yep Roc Records label and will be issued on August 21.

[Back To Birth cover]
Greene’s seventh studio album, Back To Birth follows up his 2010 LP Till the Light Comes, and features contributions from Paul Rigby (guitar, mandolin, pedal steel guitar), Damian Erskine (bass), Reinhardt Melz (drums) and Jason Crosby (violin, string arrangements). Produced by Los Lobos’ Steve Berlin and recorded at Supernatural Sound in Portland, Greene contributed guitar, piano, organ and drums as well as vocals across the album’s 11 tracks including “Trust Somebody” which you can stream below:
“Musically, this record is kind of a return to the simplicity that I started with, although I feel like I have a much better idea of what I’m doing now,” Greene said. “I think the lyrics are the part that’s really evolved. A lot of these songs are looking at the notion of a cyclical existence, and the sense that life goes in a circle.”
Greene will soon head out on the Back To Birth Tour in support of the record, playing both Jackie Greene Band shows as well as festival appearances with Trigger Hippy which he co-fronts with Joan Osborne.
