Iron & Wine (Sam Beam) will issue his first solo full-length album since 2017, Light Verse, on April 26 via Sub Pop Records. The singer-songwriter shared the lead single, “You Never Know,” along with 2024 Summer Tour dates.
Produced by Sam Beam with mixing/engineering by Dave Way at Waystation and Silent Zoo Studios in Los Angeles, Light Verse is Iron & Wine’s seventh studio album. The new record follows 2017’s Beast Epic and the 2018 EP Weed Garden.
The 10-track collection sees contributions from Fiona Apple (“All In Good Time”), Dawes drummer Griffin Goldsmith, keyboardist Tyler Chester, bassist Sebastian Steinberg and guitarist David Garza. Beth Goodfellow and Kyle Crane round out the drums and percussion while Paul Cartwright adds strings along with a 24-piece orchestra.

A press release further detailed the new Iron & Wine LP:
With Light Verse, Beam’s lyrics once again draw on a series of fictional and personal insights, filled with desperate characters and wide-eyed optimists, offering promise and a dose of heartache, tears and laughter, life and love. It’s also Iron & Wine’s most playful record, with its title reflecting how the songs were born with joy after the heaviness and anxiety of the pandemic. Where Beast Epic and Weed Garden gave air to the disquiet of middle-aged frailty and brokenness, Light Verse’s songs trade that for the focus acceptance can bring. Moment by moment, they delight in being pointed or silly (or both) and attempt beauty over prettiness.
