We’re saddened to pass along word that keyboardist Isaiah “Ikey” Owens has died at the age of 38. Owens was on tour as a member of Jack White’s band in Mexico, where Periodico Digital reports he was found dead in his Puebla, Mexico hotel room on Tuesday morning (as per Consequence of Sound).

White’s Third Man Records label has shared a statement about Owens’ passing:

It is with great sadness that we tell the world of the passing of the incredible musician Isaiah “Ikey” Owens. He will be missed and loved forever by his family, friends, bandmates and fans.

Ikey Owens was an astounding keyboard player in Jack White’s backing band. He also played with Mars Volta, Free Moral Agents, and many other projects.

Out of respect for Ikey, the remaining shows of the Jack White Tour in Mexico have been cancelled.

We will all miss you Ikey. You were and are an incredible artist.

Ikey toured the world with Mars Volta from 2001 -2009 and joined White’s band in 2012. Periodico Digital’s article states that alcohol and drugs were found in Owens’ room, though the exact cause of death has yet to be determined.

Update: Third Man Records has posted an update stating, “The coroner has determined that Ikey Owens died from a heart attack the morning of October 14th at approximately 4 am. The only drugs found in his room were a small amount of marijuana.”
