Happy Birthday Robert Plant: Solo Career Spotify Playlist

With his instantly recognizable vocals and onstage persona, Robert Plant quickly became the archetypal rock ‘n’ roll frontman as the lead singer of the legendary group Led Zeppelin alongside Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and John Bonham. Celebrating his 68th birthday today, Plant remains active with his current band The Sensational Space Shifters, one of the many projects he’s been involved in since the dissolution of Led Zeppelin. For this week’s Saturday Stream, below is a Spotify Playlist constructed of Plant’s work as vocalist outside of his time in Zeppelin.

Opening and closing the playlist are selections from a live release featuring Plant performing with his group Band Of Joy. The Zeppelin classic “Tangerine” starts things off while the traditional “And We Bid You Goodnight” brings the collection to a close. Between those tracks, the rest of the set flows chronologically through each of Plant’s solo LPs, starting with Phil Collins playing drums on “Burning Down One Side” from 1982’s Pictures At Eleven and continuing through “Rainbow” from the Space Shifters’ 2014 album lullaby and… The Ceaseless Roar.

There’s also a track from his 1994 one-off collaboration with Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck and Nile Rodgers known as The Honeydrippers and a song from Plant’s acclaimed 2007 collaborative LP with Alison Krauss Raising Sand. Page also appears with his former Led Zeppelin band mate on a pair of 1990s live tracks. And Plant can be heard covering Bob Dylan, Arthur Alexander and Elbow within the 20-song set that can be streamed below:
