Happy Birthday Robert Hunter | Americana Award

We’d like to wish a very happy birthday to the great Robert Hunter. Hunter penned the lyrics to many beloved Grateful Dead songs over the years including “Friend Of The Devil,” “Truckin’,” “China Cat Sunflower,” “Box Of Rain” and “Scarlet Begonias.” Hunter and Garcia were inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame last week in NYC, where Robert performed “Ripple.”

In September of 2013, before his first tour in a decade started, Robert Hunter was honored with the lifetime achievement award at the Americana Music Honors & Awards at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. Jim Lauderdale introduced Hunter with a stirring speech before Robert accepted the honor. The California native then launched into a performance of “Ripple,” marking his return to the stage after more than a decade.
