This week’s edition of Sunday Cinema focuses on Canadian rocker Neil Young who celebrates his 72nd birthday today. The past year has been light for Young, having made only one live appearance in 2017 at the recent Farm Aid charity concert. The annual events that raise money and awareness for family farming have seen Young share the stage with numerous musicians and below is footage of several of his memorable Farm Aid collaborations.
Young’s fellow Farm Aid board members Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp and Dave Matthews can seen performing “Homegrown” on October 2, 2010 at Miller Park in Milwaukee. Nelson was also present on September 18, 2005 at the First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre in Tinley Park, Illinois when Emmylou Harris joined Neil on “This Old Guitar.” The outlaw country legend was also part of the end of Young’s extensive collaboration with Phish at the same venue on October 3, 1998.
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young can be seen performing their classic “Our House” on September 17, 2000 in Bristow, Virginia and “This Old House” live in Indianapolis on April 7, 1990. There is also a pair of clips from this year’s Farm Aid featuring Young and Promise Of The Real. Their set on September 16 at KeyBank Pavilion in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania included takes on “Fuckin’ Up” and “Like A Hurricane,” which along with the other videos are presented below:
