Late legendary rock musicians Joe Strummer was born on this date in 1952. The inspiring frontman of the British punk icons The Clash was just 50-years-old when he unexpectedly died in 2002 of congenital heart failure.

Both with The Clash and during his subsequent solo career, Strummer was an outspoken voice for human rights and political equality. His work beyond The Clash is featured in a new box set, Joe Strummer 001, that for the first time compiles Strummer’s recordings with his backing bands The 101ers and The Mescaleros, each of his solo albums, as well as soundtrack work and an entire new album of previously unreleased songs.
