Happy Birthday Deaner | Ween At Red Rocks

By Scott Bernstein Sep 25, 2015 1:30 pm PDT

Today, New Hope native Mickey Melchiondo turns 45. Melchiondo is best known by his stage name of Dean Ween as he continues to spread the brown in the wake of Ween’s 2012 breakup by touring with The Dean Ween Group. For today’s Full Show Friday we honor Deaner by sharing incredible footage of Ween’s 2006 visit to the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado.

2006 was a slow year of touring for Ween as they played just 26 shows. However they did rent a farmhouse in February 2006 and turned it into a recording studio, where they went to work on the material that would form their final studio album, 2007’s La Cucaracha. Though they were in the midst of recording the LP, Ween didn’t perform any of the songs that would appear on La Cucaracha at Red Rocks on July 29, 2006. Instead fans were treated to as close as Ween would come to a greatest hits show.

Ween’s Red Rocks ’06 setlist contained a whopping six songs off 1994’s Chocolate & Cheese, five from 1997’s The Mollusk and four a piece from 2003’s Quebec and 2000’s White Pepper. Smack dab in the middle was a brief acoustic set that featured stripped down takes on “The Mollusk,” “Chocolate Town,” “Tried And True” and “Mutilated Lips.” About two years ago Deaner shared footage of the show on Facebook with the note, “Here is a great video of Ween 2006 at Red Rocks with soundboard audio and multiple cameras. This is what they used to broadcast the concert on the big screen.” Check it out:
