Happy Birthday Angus Young: Covering AC/DC Spotify Playlist

Legendary guitarist Angus Young today celebrates his 63rd birthday. The last surviving co-founding member of the Australia-based hard rock band AC/DC, Young’s iconic Ashfield Boys High School uniform and onstage theatrics, coupled with his tenacious lead guitar riffs place him among the most recognizable performers in rock history.

Angus founded AC/DC in 1973 with his late brother Malcolm Young, first rising to success with frontman Bon Scott, who was later replaced by Brian Johnson following Scott’s death in 1980. Hearing damage forced Johnson out the band in 2016, with Guns N’ Roses vocalist Axl Rose taking his place. Regardless of the lineup, AC/DC has achieved global success, had huge album sales and staged massive tours during the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame-inducted band’s lengthy career.

This edition of Saturday Stream celebrates Angus with a Spotify Playlist featuring covers of classic AC/DC songs. The first 15 tracks are covers by the likes of Phish, Living Colour, Lemmy, Anthrax, Bruce Dickinson and Flipper. There are also interesting takes on AC/DC tunes provided (surprisingly) by Lesley Gore and late night bandleader Paul Shaffer. A pair of covers from the Pickin’ On series are included along with stripped down acoustic arrangements of songs from the Bon Scott-era recorded by Mark Kozelek. The playlist begins with the 2CELLOS instrumental version of “Thunderstruck” and the final 15 tracks are the previous songs as originally released by AC/DC.

Happy birthday Angus, we salute you.
