Gunn-Truscinski Duo featuring guitarist Steve Gunn and drummer John Truscinski released “For Eddie Hazel,” a tribute to the late Parliament/Funkadelic guitarist. The single appears on Soundkeeper, a 12-track album coming out through Three Lobed Recordings on October 9.

Soundkeeper marks the pair’s fourth collaborative album and first since 2017’s Bay Head. The upcoming LP contains two tracks recorded live at Union Pool in Brooklyn with the rest tracked during sessions held at Sonelab in western Massachusetts and Echo Canyon in Hoboken, New Jersey.

“Our collaboration over the years has been inspired by extensive discussion of albums and musicians we love and admire,” explained Steve Gunn in a statement. “The tone and feel of Eddie Hazel’s guitar playing has always been a particular talking point, especially Hazel’s open playing and inventive use of the echoplex on the album Maggot Brain. Because we’ve listened and talked about him so much, we figured it was time to dedicate something in his honor.”
