Grizzly Bear Brings Out Beach House’s Victoria Legrand In Brooklyn

Grizzly Bear’s ongoing five-show residency at Brooklyn Steel reached the midway-point Thursday night in New York City. The third concert of the run — which marks the band’s first performances since 2019 — saw Beach House’s Victoria Legrand get brought out for an extensive collaboration.

Legrand took the stage with Grizzly Bear toward the back end of their set. Guitarist Daniel Rossen prompted Ed Droste to introduce their “special guest.”

“A very long time ago, some 20, 21 years ago, we were fortunate enough to join forces on tour, on multiple tours, with the amazing Beach House,” Droste began. “And we have been road warriors together. We have played empty rooms in Buffalo at a comedy club. We’ve done it all. And we’ve played full rooms. And all along by our side was the magnificent, the singular, the fabulous, Victoria Legrand, who we are honored to have join us tonight and for the rest of the U.S. dates. It is so fun for us, this is the biggest treat we could possibly think of.”

The guest spot began with “Slow Life,” the song Grizzly Bear recorded with Legrand for the soundtrack to the 2009 feature film, The Twilight Saga: New Moon. The Shields outtake, “Will Calls,” was next to feature Legrand’s added vocals.

The guest spot continued with the Veckatimest standout “Two Weeks,” which featured Legrand on the album version of the track. Legrand ended her appearance by augmenting “Three Rings” from Grizzly Bear’s album, Painted Ruins.

Grizzly Bear’s remaining two shows at Brooklyn Steel continue tonight, Friday, October 17 and Saturday, October 18. Watch an audience-shot video of Thursday’s show in NYC below:
