Paul Hoffman of Greensky Bluegrass is featured on the latest installment of Osiris podcast Inside Out With Turner & Seth. Hosts Seth Weiner and Rob Turner chat with Hoffman about the origins of the band, his songwriting process, fatherhood, this weekend’s Camp Greensky festival and more.
The talk took place at the recent Candler Park Music & Arts Festival in Atlanta. GSBG had just reunited after six weeks off, a long period for the road warrior quintet. Hoffman starts by talking about the band’s old-school approach to recording. He then explains how his songwriting process has grown and evolved with the group in recent years and how that informed All For Money, the latest Greensky album.

Paul then chats about his pre-Greensky days as an actor, how he joined the band and the formation of the current lineup. He recalls the instruments he tried before settling on mandolin and the rise of Greensky from a local act to nationally-touring juggernaut. Hoffman then discusses what he’s learned from Billy Strings and his own performance style, who he’d like to guest with Greensky and what led the five-piece to create their own festival. The mandolinist goes on to talk about his musical tastes and how they are represented at Camp Greensky, what changes are in store for this year’s event and more.
