Watch Greensky Bluegrass Cover John Prine’s ‘Speed At The Sound Of Loneliness’

Greensky Bluegrass honored the late John Prine by performing the acclaimed singer-songwriter’s “Speed At The Sound Of Loneliness” on August 28, 2020 during their fourth of eight “Leap Year Sessions” livestream concerts. The band unveiled video of the John Prine cover, audio of which is featured on the recently released The Leap Year Sessions: Volume Two compilation.
John Prine wrote “Speed At The Sound Of Loneliness” for inclusion on his 1986 album, German Afternoons. Prine went on to record a duet on the tune with Nanci Griffith for her Other Voices, Other Rooms LP in 1993.

Greensky Bluegrass guitarist Dave Bruzza sang lead on the quintet’s “Speed At The Sound Of Loneliness.” The version played at The Pageant in St. Louis still stands as GSBG’s lone cover of the song.
The Leap Year Sessions: Volume Two collects audio from Greensky’s third and fourth “Leap Year Sessions” livestream concerts which took place on August 21 and August 28, respectively. “Speed At The Sound Of Loneliness” came in the middle of the five-piece’s set on August 28.
