Greensky Bluegrass continued their Winter Tour 2023 on Thursday with a concert at Pittsburgh’s Stage AE. The tour has seen GSBG supported by a variety of artists, with guitarist Daniel Donato the latest to fill the role.
Donato, who also opened Wednesday’s show in Cleveland and will support Greensky again tomorrow night in Washington D.C., was brought back to the Stage AE stage during the headliner’s second set. GSBG dobro player Anders Beck introduced Donato, telling the Pittsburgh audience:
“We’re lucky to have Daniel and his fine band on tour with us. I guess you’re lucky — we’re all lucky together! We’re Greensky Bluegrass, right? Bluegrass is a thing and we added the word ‘Greensky’ to bluegrass to make kind of our own thing. Take this music and make it your own shit, right? …
“The reason I bring this up is because ‘country music’ – I mean old country music is amazing, new country is pretty shitty, in my opinion – but it’s still country music, and what our friend Daniel Donato has done here is taken ‘country music’ and added the word ‘cosmic’ in front of it. So if we all together could just give him a big ‘Fuck Yeah!’ that’d be great.”
Donato’s electric guitar then augmented the Greensky Bluegrass original “I’d Probably Kill You.” GSBG kept Donato around for a subsequent 11-minute cover of Norton Buffalo’s “Ain’t No Bread In The Breadbox.” Watch single-cam, pro-shot video of “Ain’t No Bread In The Breadbox” below:
