Greensky Bluegrass Collaborates With Fruition At 9:30 Club

By Scott Bernstein Feb 3, 2017 9:31 am PST

Michigan jamgrass act Greensky Bluegrass began a sold-out, three-night stand at the 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C. on Thursday night. Fruition opened and members of the band wound up sitting-in with GSBG at various points throughout the evening.

Greensky Bluegrass kicked off the Groundhog’s Day show with the fitting “Groundhog.” Next up was a cover of The Traveling Wilbury’s “Handle With Care.” Later in the set, GSBG worked through favorites “Take Cover,” “While Waiting” and “All Four.” The guest spots started in the second set as Fruition’s Jay Cobb Anderson and Mimi Naja assisted on a cover of The Wood Brothers’ “Luckiest Man.” A take on Keith Allison’s “Freeborn Man” came next, while later Naja returned for “Forget Everything.” The second set concluded with a “Worried About The Weather” that featured a “Foxy Lady” detour. For the encore, Greensky was joined by Kevin Gregory on “Fixin’ To Ruin.” The band’s run at the 9:30 Club continues on Friday night.
