Graham Nash Among Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds’ Guests At Stand With Standing Rock

On Sunday night a number of artists came together at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C. to raise funds and awareness for the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe’s opposition to the Dakota Access Pipeline. Stand With Standing Rock featured performances from Ledisi, Neko Case, Graham Nash and Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds. Matthews both headlined and hosted the concert with the funds raised going towards supplies, legal assistance and other necessities to “water protectors.”

Matthews welcomed a number of tribe members to tell their stories in between acoustic performances. Ledisi’s set was heavy on covers including Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come,” Simon & Garfunkel’s “A Bridge Over Troubled Water” and The Beatles’ “Come Together.” Then, Neko Case played a three-song set that saw her joined by Eric Bachmann of Archers Of Loaf on guitar. Nash and guitarist Shane Fontayne were up next and kicked off a brief performance with the fitting “Military Madness.” Shane and Graham’s set also featured takes on “Just A Song Before I Go,” “Wasted On The Way” and “Chicago.”

Dave & Tim ended the evening with a career-spanning set. The pair began with “Don’t Drink The Water” and worked through such favorites as “Satellite,” “One Sweet World” and “#41” before bringing out Neko Case for a gorgeous version of “The Maker” by Daniel Lanois. Tim then played a solo dubbed “Tangled Web We Weave” ahead of Dave leading “Little Thing,” “Samurai Cop,” “Oh” and “Crush.” Matthews & Reynolds ended their main set by bringing out Graham Nash and Shane Fontayne for Nash’s “Teach Your Children.” The night ended with an encore from the DMB guitarists featuring the debut of “Song For Billijo” and longtime staple “Two Step.”
