Gov’t Mule brought out Micah Nelson (Particle Kid) for a Neil Young cover last night at TD Pavilion at the Mann in Philadelphia. The Outlaw Music Festival stop also saw Warren Haynes join Willie Nelson during the headliner’s set.

Micah Nelson, who later performed alongside his father Willie, joined Gov’t Mule for a performance of Neil Young’s “Rockin’ In The Free World. The collaboration came near the end of Mule’s set, which began with “Million Miles From Yesterday.”

The band followed the opener with Haynes’ Phil Lesh & Friends’ original “Patchwork Quilt” and Mule’s “Man I Wanna Be.” They then strung together several covers including Tom Waits’ “Going Out West,” Al Green’s “I’m A Ram,” Elton John’s “Mercy On The Criminal and Etta James’ “I’d Rather Go Blind.” After Nelson’s sit-in on the Young cover, Gov’t Mule finished their performance with the classics “Mule” and “Soulshine.”

Haynes came back out during Willie Nelson’s set, and along with fellow Outlaw Fest performers Margo Price and Sturgill Simpson, sang a medley that included “Will The Circle Be Unbroken” and “I’ll Fly Away.” The Outlaw Music Festival tour continues tonight in Saratoga Springs, New York.
