Gov’t Mule Welcomes Jerry Marotta In Albany

By Nate Todd Sep 20, 2019 11:09 am PDT

Gov’t Mule rolled through the Palace Theatre in Albany, New York on Thursday night. Warren Haynes and company welcomed drummer Jerry Marotta on “What Is Hip?” one song into the second set.

Gov’t Mule got things going with “Traveling Tune” which led into “Mule.” The band continued with “Pressure Under Fire,” “Time To Confess,” “Lay Your Burden Down,” “Inside Outside Woman Blues #3,” “Unring The Bell” and “Endless Parade.” Gov’t Mule brought the first frame to a close with “Revolution Come, Revolution Go.”

Mule kicked off the second set with “Wandering Child” before Matt Abts gave up his throne to Marotta on “What Is Hip?” The band continued with a cover of Jeff Beck’s “Freeway Jam,” ahead of “Child Of The Earth” and a rendition of Bob Marley’s “Lively Up Yourself.” “Fool’s Moon” came next before the second set closer, “Thorazine Shuffle,” which contained a “Traveling Tune” reprise. Gov’t Mule would retake the stage for an encore of Blind Willie Johnson’s “Dark Was The Night, Cold Was The Ground.”
