Renowned blues artist Beth Hart was Gov’t Mule‘s special guest on Monday night in Los Angeles. Hart fronted the group on three songs to end last night’s second set at The Belasco.

Gov’t Mule played a full two-set show in L.A. following appearances on Outlaw Music Festival dates in Phoenix on Friday and Irvine, California on Saturday. Warren Haynes and company opened Monday’s concert with a trio of live staples: “Stone Cold Rage,” “Fool’s Moon” and “Larger Than Life.” The quartet then dusted off “Gordon James” for the first time since August 29, 2019.

The show rolled on with a “Game Face” featuring a foray into “Mountain Jam” and back in a repeat of an often-played segment. “Stoop So Low” was then followed by the Haynes-penned “If Heartaches Were Nickels” and Howlin’ Wolf’s “I Asked For Water (She Gave Me Gasoline)” to end the set. Both songs appear on the band’s upcoming blues album, Heavy Load Blues.

Mule kicked off last night’s second set with the title track from 2017’s Revolution Come…Revolution Go before tearing into “Thorazine Shuffle.” The fan-favorite gave way to a cover of The Beatles’ “She Said, She Said.” Next came the pairing of “Pressure Under Fire” and an instrumental take on Bob Marley’s “Lively Up Yourself.” Hart then emerged to belt out Etta James’ “I’d Rather Go Blind” after advising the crowd she was “scared shitless right now.”

The Los Angeles-born and raised musician also showed off her powerful pipes, dynamic range and impressive stage presence on “Soulshine” and the Led Zeppelin classic “Whole Lotta Love” to close out the frame. Gov’t Mule last played the latter on April 20, 2019. The four-piece went at it alone to cap the evening with a cover of Tom Waits’ “Goin’ Out West.”
