Gov’t Mule‘s annual Mule-O-Ween concert came to the Warner Theatre in Washington D.C. on Friday. Guitarist Warren Haynes and company delivered a second set loaded with Aerosmith debuts, many of which featured vocalist Marc LaBelle.
Gov’t Mule also dedicated the setlist to legendary Philadelphia rock radio host Pierre Robert. The second set commenced with a pair of tunes off Aerosmith’s 1973 self-titled debut “Make It” and “Walking The Dog,” the latter a Rufus Thomas cover the rockers included on their first LP.
Mule then moved on to Aerosmith’s 1974 record, Get Your Wings, with “Lord Of The Thighs,” “Same Old Song And Dance” and “Seasons Of Wither.”
Next, Haynes and the band welcomed vocalist Marc LaBelle of the band Dirty Honey for a host of Aerosmith classics including “Back In The Saddle” (which happens to be the name of Mule’s current tour), “Last Child” (a song Dirty Honey recorded), “Sweet Emotion,” “Dream On” and “Walk This Way.”
Gov’t Mule then went it alone to close the second set with “Mama Kin.” The encore featured a Mule bust out of blues standard “Train Kept A Rollin’,” a song Aerosmith covered and last played by Gov’t Mule in 2010.
