The 11th installment of Outside Lands was held at San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park this past weekend. Friday’s action was headlined by Beck and The Weeknd with Shannon & The Clams, Margo Price, Billie Eilish, Chicano Batman, Father John Misty and Mac DeMarco among those who also performed at the first day of the music, art, food, wine and comedy festival. A new addition was the TED Talks-like D.A.V.E. (Discussions About Virtually Everything) series featuring discussions led by the likes of Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart and famed television personality Bill Nye “The Science Guy”.
Florence + The Machine brought the High As Hope Tour to Golden Gate Park to close out the Lands End stage on Saturday with a set heavy on material from High As Hope. The diverse lineup for day two of OSL ’18 also included Bon Iver, Big Gigantic, Future, CHVRCHES, Broken Social Scene, Kikagaku Moyo and more. On Sunday, Janet Jackson ended the festival with a career-spanning, 90-minute performance that featured a number of medleys such as one that combined portions of hits “Control,” “What Have You Done For Me Lately” and “The Pleasure Principle.” Portugal. The Man held down the main stage ahead of Ms. Jackson. The band opened with covers of Metallica’s “For Whom The Bell Tolls” and Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick In The Wall” and later ended “Feel It Still” abruptly when they ran out of time. Janelle Monáe, who overcame a bout of food poisoning, Chromeo, James Blake, Monophonics, T Sisters and Durand Jones & The Indications also played the final day of this year’s Outside Lands. Photographer Susan Weiand was on hand all weekend long. Check out a full gallery of her work along with the festival’s official recap video:
