This past Friday night Reed Mathis and Electric Beethoven collaborated with guitarist Steve Kimock for a Dead & Company after show at Metro in Chicago. Fan-shot video of the two-set affair has surfaced allowing us to view what went down at EB’s first show with the legendary axeman.
The concert found Kimock and Electric Beethoven performing a batch of Steve’s originals along with jams on Beethoven movements and a handful of covers. Kimock led the ensemble through “Nana’s Chalk Pipe” and “Ice Cream” ahead of forays into Beethoven material to close out first set. Steve Kimock, bassist Reed Mathis, drummer Jay Lane, keyboardist Todd Stoops and guitarist Clay Welch then presented a second set that featured takes on the Grateful Dead’s “Stella Blue,” Jimmy Cliff’s “Many Rivers To Cross” and Paul Simon’s “Graceland” along with “It’s Up To You,” “You’re The One,” “Philadelphia Mambo” and “Five Before Funk.”
