Full Show Video: Dave Matthews Performs With Carlos Varela

Dave Matthews recently performed at a private event held at The Hamilton in Washington D.C. The November 13 Center For Democracy In America 10th anniversary celebration featured Matthews performing solo as well as with Cuban singer-songwriter Carlos Varela and his band.

Matthews befriended Varela, a force behind his native country’s Nueva Trova political music campaign, during a recent goodwill trip to Cuba. After being introduced by Varela, Matthews performed a three-song solo set made up of “Little Red Bird,” “Don’t Drink The Water” (with “This Land Is Your Land” lyrics) and “Oh.”

The evening also saw Matthews perform with Varela on guitar and his band made up of pianist Aldo Lopez Gavilán, drummer Yissy García and bassist Julio Cesar González. The collaboration included Matthews favorites “Save Me” and “#41” and the relatively new Dave Matthews Band tune “Samurai Cop.” The set also saw a rendition of Varela’s “Muros y Puertas.”

The collective encored with “Ants Marching.” Multi-cam footage shared by ChesterCopperpot5 can be viewed here:
