Full Show Pro-Shot Video: The Disco Biscuits Play 1st Of 2 In Portland, Maine
By Jeffrey Greenblatt Mar 10, 2018 • 12:04 pm PST
The Disco Biscuits continued their short New England run on Friday night pulling into Portland, Maine for the first of two shows at the historic State Theatre. The Philadelphia-based act offered up a first set that was filled with old-school classics and a seamless jam-filled second frame that started and ended with the same song.
The jamtronica stalwarts leaned exclusively on material they debuted in the 1990s in their opening set as they got things rolling with the one-punch of “M.E.M.P.H.I.S.” > “Voices Insane,” which were first played in 1997 and 1998 respectively. The four-piece band then sandwiched a cover of Frank Zappa’s “Pygmy Twylyte,” which stretches back to 1995 in the middle of “Spaga,” which first saw action in May of 1999. The first frame came to an end with “Wet,” a song that dates back to 1998.
The Disco Biscuits got their second set of the night underway with “Story Of The World.” The segue-filled stanza continued with an inverted take on “42.” “Lunar Pursuit” followed with “Naeba” also getting the inverted treatment. “Tricycle” was up next as the band eventually returned back to the way they started the set as “Story Of The World” closed things out. The untz-rockers brought their night to an end with “On Time.”
