In January a reunited Sleater-Kinney released No Cities To Love, the band’s long awaited eighth album and follow-up to 2005’s The Woods. A month later the trio of guitarists/vocalists Carrie Brownstein and Corin Tucker and drummer Janet Weiss, along with touring multi-instrumentalist Katie Harkin, appeared at the 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C. for the first time since August 2006. NPR Music was on hand for the first gig of a two-night stand February 24 and 25 and filmed it for the Front Row series.

Only 10 shows into the tour, the regrouped band showcased all but two of the tracks on No Cities To Love, while the rest of the set was composed of a mix of originals from across the band’s discography. The 18 song main set and five song encore featured Brownstein and Tucker sharing vocals and guitar licks equally with Weiss’ embellishing drum fills during a blistering one hour and twenty minute performance.

Sleater-Kinney plays tonight in St. Louis at The Pageant with openers THEESatisfaction.
